Auburn, Indiana’s Worldwide Auctioneers return to Houston, Texas on April 23rd to host the 15th Annual Houston Classic auction. While renowned for organizing exceptional auction lineups and events, the Worldwide team have pulled out all the stops with what has to be one of the best catalogue sales on this year’s auction calendar in terms of diversity, quality, and significance.
This post kicks of the series in a big way, with a look at the “Silver L88 Trifecta,” a group of three L88 Corvettes from a single collector. Just 216 L88-powered Corvettes were ever produced for sale to Chevrolet customers – with all required to be special customers or established racing teams. The L88s offered at Houston by Worldwide are three of the best extant and include 1 of the 20 examples built for the inaugural 1967 model year, one of the 80 produced for 1968, and one of the 116 for the third and final 1969 model year. All remain highly coveted and continue to enjoy near-mythical status today for their racing heritage, immense performance, and exotic specifications including lightweight aluminum cylinder heads.
